When the Lich King's control of his death knights were broken, his former champions sought revenge for the horrors commited under his command. After their venegance was won, the death knights found themselves without a cause, and without a home. One by one, they trickled into the land of the living in search of a new purpose.

Death knights are people who were once warriors or paladins, then were killed by the Scourge and raised to serve Arthas, the Lich King. After serving the Lich King for a while, most Death Knights were freed from Arthas's grasp thanks to Highlord Tirion Fordring. They later rejoin their former factions to fight against the Scourge, and later the looming enemies that threaten Azeroth. A group called the Knights of the Ebon Blade, led by Highlord Darion Mograine, is also created.

Gameplay[]

Death knights have a unique starting experience. They start at level 55 in a phased sub-zone of the Eastern Plaguelands called Plaguelands: The Scarlet Enclave, working as an agent of the Scourge to exterminate the members of the Scarlet Crusade in Havenshire and New Avalon. After successfully oblitering the two towns and exterminating the population, Highlord Darion Mograine leads the Scourge's forces to attack the Argent Dawn at Light's Hope Chapel. They almost succeed, but fail when Highlord Tirion Fordring enters the battle. The death knights are freed from the Lich King's grasp, and Tirion announces the creation of the Argent Crusade. The death knights then return to Acherus to kill the Scourge forces there, and establish the flying necropolis as the base of the Knights of the Ebon Blade.

Class Order & Hall[]

The class order for the death knight is the Knights of the Ebon Blade, which the death knight has been declared the Deathlord of. Their class hall is Acherus: The Ebon Hold, which has moved from the Eastern Plaguelands to the Broken Isles.
