Kilonar was a Night elf hunter formerly of the Alliance born in -1646 AC. He was more independent during the Third War, but he hunted demon lords, primarily in the Eastern Plaguelands. After killing the nathrezim Fanondrius somewhere in the Plaguelands, Illidan Stormrage appeared to Kilonar, who invited him to join the Illidari as a demon hunter. Kilonar accepted, and he traveled to the Black Temple on Outland to train as a demon hunter.
Kilonar soon became one of Illidan's most trusted commanders alongside Daldoren, who was once a druid and warrior. Illidan commanded them to go to Mardum to claim a Sargerite Keystone, which would allow them to travel to any of the Burning Legion worlds. After they conquered Mardum, they returned to the Black Temple to help Illidan in protecting the temple from invaders. Towards the end of the attack, Kilonar dueled Maiev Shadowsong, but in the end they failed and Illidan was killed. The demon hunters were imprisoned for the next ten years.
Ten years later, Kilonar and the other demon hunters were freed from their prison by the Wardens in the hopes that they would help in the fight against the Burning Legion, who was invading Azeroth for the third time. They all agreed to help, and they went to the Broken Isles to fight the Legion. During this war, Kilonar struggled to accept who he was, unable to figure out where to put his trust: in Illidan, or himself. He also met the night elf Sentinel, Thaldrissa Nightsong.
